Ric, Matt, Vaughan all great feedback. The issues is always going to be saying 'no' to some things some times as this is a very emotional statement which inevitably means its hard to do. I know that I need to take back control of my time and stop rushing around...which always leads to chaos. I think discipline is going to be the word of the day, sticking to it is another thing. Vaughan, that book is on my list of 'must reads' this year. Do write a book though, anyone that knows you will read it as you always bring value to any conversation :-)

Thanks again!

Somebody might have said this before somewhere, I'm not sure.

Relax, Focus, Succeed

Actually I'm thinking of writing a book about it, which is provisionally entitled "Chalk up a Lark".

I understand your issue. Being in the office until 8pm last night, to being in at 4:30 am this morning. A 20 hour day tomorrow and who know what the weekend may throw.
But this counter acts with the ability to take time off when I want, be able to have the "extended lunch" and work short days when everything is working well.
In our industry, the ability to be connected and available is a hard one to shrug off, but, this ability also makes it possible to perform a lot of tasks from anywhere. The trick is to make sure that you have the right tools in place to utilise these.
Remote support, call diversion and email are all great tools that mean that you are not locked to a location. You can carry on with you time where ever and whenever you please, dealing with issues when they arise.

Sometimes though, there are just those periods where you have to stick it out. After all, it's your business.

Rob - as somebody who has been in your situation, and struggled with (and still occasionally struggle with it now! - I'll offer this tip.

The longer and harder you work does not necessarily mean the more you'll get done.

Sometimes it's good to take some time out, relax, and come back at things with a fresh perspective. This could be going to a Business Conference that will energise you with ideas, or taking a long weekend to relax, or even something as simple as reading a chapter of a book. Anything that focuses your attention on something other than the day-to-day grind.

I've observed that people who are "too busy" to work on important things that will move them forwards are typically still to be found in the vicious circle of fire-fighting and getting stressed many months (or in some cases, years) later.

I love the phrase "If you carry on doing what you've always done, don't be surprised when you get the same results". :-)
